Dr. Candace Thompson grew up in Manchester , MA and graduated High School in 1983. After 3 years, she wanted to work more with patients and how the drugs she was working on helped people. So she applied for medical school and accepted at University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences/ later names Des Moines University Medical School in Iowa. After traveling the U.S . doing externships, she chose UMASS/ Worcester to do her Residency in Internal Medicine. She then took a job in Waterloo, Iowa working for the underserved population. After two years, she missed the ocean and her family and came back to Massachusetts. She worked for 10 years at Cape Ann Medical Center in Gloucester and loved treating the people of Cape Ann. She is Medical Director at Golden Living Center Nursing Home since 2005 and enjoys visiting her patients in the local nursing homes. Her interests are anything in primary care especially : Diabetes, Cardiac disease, Wellness, Healthy Aging, Rejuvination ,Preventive Care, Integrated Medicine, and Happiness. She states " I'm just a small town doc, trying to make things better for patients and herself. With all the healthcare changes, I feel there is less personalization and power with the doc and the patient. I want to try and restore that. The reason I went in to medicine and the best part of my day is that one-on-one with the patient. They teach me as much as I hope to teach them. Medicine is humbling and the more I know , the more I learn. There is nothing like the personal connection to help in healing. I love being a doc . It is my privilege and honor to have patients let me take care of them."
Dr Thompson is Board Certified in Internal Medicine.
